I started out as a mobile discoteque back in 1980 under the name of Bubbles Disco, doing weddings, birthday parties and anything else that required a disco. I then secured my first club residency at Perrys in Wokingham, doing both Friday and Saturday nights, for about 3 years . From there, I was approached to do an audition at Cavershams Nightclub in Reading for the Saturday nights DJing slot, which at the time were party nights. I stuck to my roots of playing good dance music although at midnight I had to dish out plastic hats and umbrellas and do half hour of party tunes which was actually a good laugh.
Soon after the success of the Saturday night sessions I was offered the chance to take over the Friday night, and it quickly became one of the best nights in Reading for good soulful dance music. I was then chosen to play at the Berwick Soul Weekender which was the the lead up to the Southport Weekenders that Alex Lowes ran and I did the first five of those until I opened my own record shop, which meant I couldn’t get the time off to go to the weekender any more. I was a regular DJ at other clubs in Reading such as Gatsbys and Churchills but when the Rave scene took over I decided to call it a day.
I came out of retirement when Andy Coles approached me to do a small Soul night at a wine bar in Theale – Soulstice, along with DJ’s Konrad and Ian Bourne.
Pete has now started a show on Friday nights – The Night Train – 9.30 till 11.00 pm A mix of Mod / Motown / Stax / Atlantic / Ska / Bluebeat / Northern.
